Tofu in beer batter

Ever thought about covering tofu in a beer batter? Finger-licking good! 

Snack / serves four / 15 minutes


1½ block of tofu, 375 g – 3½ tsp salt – 1 egg – 175 ml lager – 150 g plain flour, sieved – oil for deep-frying – 3 tsp mayonnaise – ½ tsp mustard 

TIP: drink a full-bodied wheat beer with this snack! 


1. Tear the tofu roughly and boil it in 500 ml water with 1½ teaspoon of salt for two minutes. Remove the tofu from the pan using a slotted spoon and drain on a piece of kitchen roll.

2. Beat the egg and beer together in a mixing bowl. Stir in the flour and the remaining salt.

3. Heat the oil for deep-frying. Dip a small amount of tofu at a time in the beer batter, place the pieces on a wire skimmer and lower them into the hot oil. Deep-fry for approx. three minutes until cooked and golden. Drain the tofu on a piece of kitchen roll and keep them warm in the oven until all the pieces have been fried. 

4. Make a dip for the fried tofu by mixing the mayonnaise and mustard together.
